CHOIR Community Advisory Boards
What is a Community Advisory Board?
A Community Advisory Board is a group of individuals with professional and/or personal experiences with a condition or healthcare system relevant to a topic being researched. This group provides meaningful insight and advice to help shape research projects. They make sure that the project can meet the needs of those it is trying to serve and, ultimately, can help people in real-world settings.
BRISK Community Advisory Board
Welcome to the Community Advisory Board for the Building Resilience In SKilled Nursing Care (BRISK) study! The BRISK study is developing and testing a dyadic intervention to reduce depression and anxiety among Medicaid beneficiaries receiving rehabilitation care in a community nursing home (skilled nursing facility) and their primary care-partner. Our Advisory Board is composed of 5 members with extensive experience with skilled nursing facilities. Advisory Board members meet about quarterly to engage in discussions and decision-making, which drives our research and mission forward, to improve rehabilitation care in nursing homes.
Why Have a Community Advisory Board for the BRISK Study?
Behavioral health or psychosocial care in skilled nursing facilities is hard. We want to develop an intervention that both is effective for reducing psychological distress (depression and anxiety) and will be used in everyday practice. Our Advisory Board members provide valuable perspectives that challenge our biases and help us be realistic and patient focused as we conduct this project.
