Education and Training CORE Mission
To educate, train, and develop highly competent and regarded clinical psychologists and healthcare professionals who will lead scientific, service, and educational advancements that enhance the health and well-being of patients, families, and communities across the lifespan.
We aim to equip trainees (undergraduates, graduate students, predoctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, staff/junior faculty) with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to:
1. Make cutting-edge scientific and scholarly contributions that promote interdisciplinary understanding and treatment of health and wellness.
2. Develop, test, and implement innovative psychosocial interventions for medical and community populations.
3. Lead and foster collaborations to move towards biopsychosocial care, enhance the reach of our interventions, and build long-standing partnerships.
4. Deliver high-quality, evidence-based psychosocial interventions using a biopsychosocial, culturally sensitive lens.
5. Communicate and disseminate work in a clear and effective way to academic journals, professional organizations, and the public.
6. Serve as dedicated mentors, supervisors, and educators across academic, healthcare, and community settings.
Priorities
In service of our mission, we will:
Ensure that current education and training opportunities prioritize trainee learning and development (e.g., help them develop original ideas, think critically, use theory- and data-informed approaches).
Develop new training opportunities for postdoctoral fellows and staff to support their professional development and continued learning.
Gather and disseminate resources and information for trainees and educators, supervisors, and mentors.
Create quality assurance systems to evaluate the effectiveness of programs, seminars, supervisors, and mentors.
Identify solutions to improve education and training at the individual, program, and center levels.
Offer consultation support to faculty serving as educators, mentors, supervisors, or program leaders.
Advocate for trainees to ensure that they receive the highest-quality education and training.
